There is a lot happening all around us. There are difficult things on so many fronts. Uncertain times all around us.
According to the scriptures, "money" in itself is not a blessing, even thought having it is a blessing. Money is just a byproduct of those who work hard. (Deuteronomy 8:18) Even when we are provided for financially, we are told to remember God for what He's given us. Continue to thank and praise God for the ability to gain wealth.
Money, fame, and houses are not what determines being "blessed".
Matthew 5:3-12
- We are blessed because we have Jesus.
- We are blessed when we set boundaries with the things of this world, leaving it all behind for Jesus. Even your spouse should be number two.
- Our blessings are futuristic. Rejoice and be exceedingly glad because your reward is in heaven.
Even when things look rough, we can trust that God will provide. When we surrender to God fully, He will provide all that we need. The world is saying a lot, but our ears should be giving attention to the scriptures. We need to listen to the Word of God more than anything else.
1. This is not a time to be scared. Fear will come, but we should NEVER stay in fear. Fear brings torment. Why live in fear, when we serve an almighty God?! We serve a God who is bigger than our problems and bigger than what we are facing in the world around us.
2 Timothy 1:7 says "God has not given us a spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind."
-
- God didn't bring us torment.
- If we are tormented, we've likely taken on something God never said to take on. It's like credit cards - easy to get in, difficult to get out of.
2. This is a time to trust God. Philippians 4:19 For those who have a relationship with God, He will always supply your need. We all need God and He will meet us where we are.
3. Plan for the future. (Read about Joseph in Genesis 37-46) Joseph had dreams about the future. When the Pharoah had dreams, Joseph interpreted them and then instructed him appropriately. He told him to save in the seven years of plenty because there would be seven years of famine.
4. Save during a time of abundance. While God is providing for you, save a bit at a time for the future. Don't just spend everything you get. Save it and invest it for the future, when times are uncertain. Don't tell everybody what you have and what you're always doing. Prepare and get your things in order, now.
5. You can be a blessing to others. Like Joseph, who stored up for seven years, when famine hit, was ready to meet the needs of everyone. God doesn't just bless you for yourself, but for others. Joseph, in all that time, didn't harbor any bitterness towards his brothers who meant things for evil because He trusted in God who meant it for good.
God might be preparing you for the future. He's saying get ready for what's about to come. You have to build because storms are coming. Don't waste your time with things that steal from you or people that don't build you up.
