It is vital to understand that one's reverence to God is the most important thing for me to do before receiving the benefits God has for us.
The Psalms were written poetically, in song often, to show you what a person might be feeling or how a person experiences God. Sometimes it will show you how a person SHOULD be characterized.
- You build character when you are in pursuit of a relationship with God and reverence Him. Psalm 111 shows us the character of God and you respond by being faithful, obedient, and taking action.
Psalm 112:1 "Praise ye the LORD. Blessed is the man that feareth the LORD, that delighteth greatly in his commandments."
-
- the one who gives reverence to God will be happy
- Many people attend church but don't have a relationship with Him. Sunday should be a bit of a taste that gets you excited to go home and learn more about Him in the word. We come to church to find people of faith that will encourage you and you encourage them.
- the one who stays in the Word of God will find great delight
- Sometimes we don't know how to please God because we are distracted with things that keep us from reverencing God. Be careful not to find delight in social media more than you do the Word.
- the one who gives reverence to God will be happy
Psalm 112:2 "Their children will be mighty in the land; the generation of the upright will be pleased."
-
- when we learn the fear of the Lord, we teach the fear of the Lord
- What are you showing your children outside of Sundays? Your children see what you practice everyday. How you live matters - the blessed ones are the ones who truly reverence God. Why wouldn't we reverence a God who gets us out of trouble and saves us.
- the one who teaches the children will be filled with joy
- Be careful not to give your children things that distract them instead of things that point them to Jesus so that they might reverence Him. When God sees that we are teaching others about Him, He will be a blessing to us. The scriptures remind us to "train up a child in the way he should go so that he doesn't depart from it." Before we give them a phone, iPad, football, or game, we should give them Jesus.
- when we learn the fear of the Lord, we teach the fear of the Lord
- When we reverence God, we will not only be happy, but we will be fortunate. God blesses the righteous, those who reverence Him.
Think about the things God has done for you. How has He rescued you in situations? How has He spared your life? How has He saved you from eternal death? How has He healed you? How has He set your feet on solid ground? Give Him reverence in gratitude for all that He's done for you.
Psalm 112:3 "Wealth and riches are in their houses, and their righteousness endures forever."
-
- Rich in your relationship with God first
- Then rich in your relationships with others (family and friends)
- Then rich with your finances as a result
Your wealth should be in your relationship with the Lord first, then all the rest will come as He gives generously.
Ecclesiastes 3:11 "He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also, he has put eternity in a man's heart, yet so that he cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end."
2 Corinthians 9:6-8 God loves a cheerful giver. We ought not give grudgingly, sow sparingly, or give without purpose. We should be intentional with our giving. God is then able to do GREAT things with it so that we will have more than enough.
We reverence God by showing Him honor, giving Him praise, thanking Him for what He's done. Give Him your all.
