Matthew 22:37

What does God want us to do?

  1. God expects us to love the LORD, with all of ourselves. When you love someone, you live to please that person.
    1. John 14:15 says "If you love me, you will obey me."
    2. Do you love the LORD with all your heart, soul, and mind? How does He know?
      1. When the enemy comes to you, do you call on the Lord and His words? (James 4:7)
  2. God expects us to love others. When you love God, you love His children.
    1. If you say that you love the LORD, with all your heart, soul, and mind, then do you love your neighbor also? If so, what does that look like?
      1. 1 John 4:20 says you're a liar if you say you love the LORD but don't love your neighbor.
      2. Even if we mess up, God will love us anyway. In a similar way, you can have disagreements with people, but we are still commanded to love. "Love covers a multitude of sin." (1 Peter 4:8)
  3. God expects us to pursue holiness.  When you love God, you are set apart. You either pursue God and a life of sanctification or you don't. (Leviticus 20:7) God wants us to reflect His character in conduct, speech, integrity and purity. Holiness is different (read 2 Cor. 5:17) - pursuing God.
    1. Conduct: your behavior - outward conduct reflecting your inward heart,  aligned with God's will, empowered with the Holy Ghost. If you don't display the fruit of the Spirit, the gifts you have and show in church don't matter.
      1. How's your conduct? Are you trying to live right in honor of God?
  4. God expects us to trust Him.  Trust has to do with belief and dependence. If you believe God to be who he is, you can depend on Him to do all things. (Read Proverbs 3:5-7)

Nobody but God can change your life. If you love God will all your heart, soul, mind, and strength, then you can love your neighbor as yourself, you can pursue holiness, and you can trust Him.
