Many people think being filled with the Holy Spirit means jumping around church on Sundays but if that only happens on Sunday, then what happened to the Holy Spirit the rest of the week?
When someone needs God, they need more than charismatic feelings you have, they need to see His character through you.
John 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. '
John 15:26 But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me: '
Feeling the presence of God is good, but you have to back it up with living the presence of God. Everybody wants God's power, but before you receive that, you need His character.
1 Corinthians 12 tells us that not everyone has the same gifts. We all have different gifts. Even the gift of tongues were given to some people so that people could hear about God in their own language. (Read Acts 2:1-12 as an example of tongues).
It doesn't say in the Bible that you are saved when you are speaking in tongues. The Bible says "speaking in tongues" is a gift and everyone doesn't get the same gift.
We would love to see everyone in the church use their gifts, but we would more greatly love that everyone in the church if filled with the character of God.
The fruit of the Spirit is the character of God and everyone who is a Christian is supposed to be filled with that same fruit - the character of God. Just like an apple tree doesn't struggle to produce an apple, when you are a follower of Jesus Christ, you will naturally produce character like Him.
You can't have charisma and not have the character of God. You need the character first and foremost. Sometimes we can pretend to be holy on Sundays and then hold grudges and harbor unforgiveness in our hearts throughout the week.
Galatians 5:22-23 shows us there are 9 gifts of the Holy Spirit but one fruit. There are 9 characteristics and one fruit that all come at the same time. When you receive God inside of you, you receive all the characteristics from the Holy Spirit. The fruit is what He develops in our character throughout our lifetime.
Fruit cannot be developed by our own effort and striving. Trees don't struggle to produce fruit, the branches are connected to the tree and grow. That means we need to be connected to God in order to bear fruit. That also means who I am at home should be the same person you see on Sunday.
If the Holy Spirit has filled you, then your light should shine the same at home as it does at church. Your character shouldn't look different from one scenario to another.
John 15:1-9 tells us that we cannot bear much fruit without God. We must remain in Christ like a branch remains on the tree. We don't possess all the gifts of the Holy Spirit, but as Christians we do possess all fruit.
