The scripture tells us to honor our father and mother. (Matthew 15:4)
I've noticed that our kids lack "piety" - showing deep respect. The devil disrespected God and the Lord kicked him out of heaven. We should take that as a warning and be careful how we talk to those who are in authority over us. How do you show respect and reverance to others?
- One way we show piety is with our mouths, being careful with what we say and know when to be silent.
If children are speaking and acting disrespectfully, the parents need to train them. "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it." - Proberbs 22:6 Verse 5 tells us that there are things and people attacking our children, hoping to destroy their soul. It is our responsibility as adults to help them recognize the traps that the enemy is setting for them.
How do we know what to do with our children?
- Proverbs 4:7 "Wisdom is the principal thing: therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding."
- James 1:5 "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that give to to all liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him."
What are some principals we can teach?
- Matthew 22:37 - Teach your children to love the LORD.
- Proberbs 9:10 - Teach your children to fear the LORD.
How do we fear God?
- Psalm 34 - David showed us how to fear God
- teach them to bless the LORD
- teach them to praise God
- teach them to exalt God
- teach them to boast in the LORD
- teach them to hear God's voice
- teach them to seek the LORD
- When do you seek the LORD?
- teach them to listen to the voice of God
- teach them to cry out to the LORD - The Lord will deliver them & send angels
- teach them to fear the LORD - Then there will be no want
- Do you fear the LORD? Then why are you scared that you will be in need?
- teach them to seek the LORD - They will not want any good thing
- teach them to "come to the LORD" for all their needs- He will teach them the fear of the LORD
- teach them to hearken unto the LORD - Listen and respect Him
2 Timothy 2:15 - Teach your children to study God's Word so that they can understand God's word when they grow up.
Psalm 119:11 - "Thy word have I hid in my heart, that I might not sin against thee." - Teach your children to hide God's word in their heart so that they don't sin.
1 Thessalonians 5:17 - "Pray without ceasing." - Teach them how to pray. Teach them to go to God for forgiveness and to be cleansed.
