Luke 16:10-12

What are you believing God for? Do you believe God to do what He said He will do?

Some of us feel like we have been waiting for God to do something for us for a LONG time. There might be a BIG thing that you want, but God wants to give you the small things first. All we have to do is wait.

Have you ever wanted to give up in waiting? Maybe you feel like things are not happening the way they should, or in the timing that you want. God doesn't want you to give up. He wants you to trust that He is good and He is working. Sometimes He wants you to wait for the BIG things as He teaches you to be responsible for the small things.

Everything God gives you is for His purpose, to His glory.  That includes the uncomfortable waiting period. Promotion doesn't come without troubles.

  • Isaiah 40:31 tells us to wait and we will receive great things.
  • Luke 16:10-12 reminds us to appreciate and be faithful stewards of the small things that we have before God will give us bigger things. If we are not faithful with the things that are not spiritual, we will not be given true riches (eternal things).
  1. Faithfulness is a matter of character, not the size of responsibility. How a person handles small tasks reveals how they will handle greater responsibilities. That means praising God where you are, no matter what you have.
  2. Don't be discouraged by the small things. Zechariah 4:10 teaches us that God values small things. Don't be discouraged by small starts. Be faithful in what God's given you. Trust that He can do something with it. God's success is faithfulness and not size.
  3. Don't be a slacker. Slackers are lazy, slothful, sluggard, free-loaders - people who don't work but habitually avoid work, responsibility,  or effort - especially when they're supposed to contribute. Proverbs 6:6 talks about what a sluggard can learn from the ant, who works hard. Proverbs 12:24 talks about a diligent person's reward. Proverbs 13:4 compares the sluggard to the diligent. Romans 12:11 says that a Christian always works hard to serve the LORD - "serve the Lord well because you enjoy it." Hebrews 6:12 says "That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises."

Are there promises you want to receive? How are you faithfully and diligently pursuing God with patience?
